Look! Our blog has posts now!
With the exception of this one, they're stuff we had previously posted on Cohost. they're in the nature of all-time favorite things we've written, stuff we keep wanting to refer people back to. this, despite the fact that they're all super informal in tone and a lot of them were originally stream-of-consciousness threads of tweets or toots.
yeah, those multiple layers of authors' notes are getting a bit unwieldy, huh. if we ever have to migrate again, we'll turn them into tidy "publication history" sections, we promise.
hopefully we can keep it all right here. that's the point of hosting our own site. we also dug so deep into the technical details that we did all the finicky stuff like UUID generation by hand, so if we ever do migrate to generating things a different way, we'll know how to keep the history attached and all that.
that does bring up another point, which is that since these posts are all-time faves... that's a lot to live up to. not everything we write here is likely to be an all-time favorite! for example, some, such as this very post you are reading now, are fundamentally bound to a moment in time and unlikely to be interesting beyond that moment.
eventually we'll probably have to figure out a way to make it easy to navigate to our favorites. oh well. sufficient unto the day are the evils thereof; we'll worry about it later.
we're also a bit sad we didn't leave ourselves enough time before the Cohost shutdown to give each of these a few days of its own to breath, rather than putting them up all at once like this. like, at a technical level we could have still done that, it just felt wrong... we needed to be able to click through back and forth to make sure that the links between the new versions and the Cohost originals work, in both directions. so! you get them all at once.
it was really fun reading through all these again, though. perhaps you, oh reader, might enjoy doing that too? if you follow us you've probably seen most of them before, but who knows :) if you do give stuff a read, there's no comments section on here yet but we'd enjoy hearing about your thoughts over on fedi @ireneista@irenes.space...
